Feb. 25, 2014 My friends support my tea habit. Encourage it, even. Our book club met and had a four-tier service. Forget three-tiers! We’re nothing, if not over-achievers! We read The Willpower Instinct by Kelly McGonigal. (You can see it on the table.) We had blueberry infused tea and it was perfect for the evening discussion. Even though I indulged on the cucumber sandwiches, pimento cheese and chicken salad finger sandwiches and yummy white chocolate scones, I actually did exercise some willpower by not eating every single cucumber sandwich available. It was a challenge but I managed.
The book itself, was very useful with practical applications. McGonigal presented concepts such as moral licensing, connecting with your future self and how behaviors are contagious. I also learned how your dopamine can drive you to distraction and the role of your pre-frontal cortex. The science and studies presented were fascinating.
Thanks to my WEDC Brilliance Book Club for a lovely treat and for helping me get a little smarter along the way!
What a great way to enjoy a book club!
