Three-tier Tea

My friend, Mary Ellen and I went and had a delightful three-tiered tea at Tea With Thee by Victoria in Madison, AL.

We started off with a cup of their creamy chicken velvet soup.  We each had a scone and jam and then they brought out the three-tiered tray with 4 finger sandwiches for each of us.  DSCN0658The flowers on the top were a nice touch but the sandwiches were rather basic: chicken salad, cucumber, ham and pimento cheese.  The presentation was a little off-kilter but they tasted fine so the little sandwiches all disappeared.  It looked a little skimpy compared to tea services I’ve had elsewhere but it all started to add up and when they brought out the dessert tray I couldn’t eat another bite but they were kind enough to box it up for us.  I think they would make a better impression if they were to take the flowers off the top of the three tiered plates and instead serve the sandwiches and desserts all together.

What I like about this tea room is that they serve “bottomless pots” so we tried the Jasmine Tea – a fragrant green tea with Jasmine flowers and Victoria’s Blend – a very robust but not overpowering black tea.

Please be aware they require reservations for the three-tiered service so you will have to call ahead.  The charge is $16.

All in all it was a wonderful lunch not only because of the tasty treats and tea but also because of the wide-ranging conversation I had with an insightful and gracious friend.

Isn’t that what tea is all about?
